Electrical

It would seem that most Austin owners are more than content to work on the mechanical parts of their cars but seem to be somewhat reluctant to touch the electrics. There seems the be a perception that electrics are complicated but that really isn't the case on a classic Austin. While the electronics on todays modern vehicles are complex requiring an in depth understanding of electronics the electrics on a classic Austin is a different world entirely, simple enough to be grasped by an enthusiastic owner.

In this section we examine each part of the electrical system and explain both the theory and practical workings of each component.

When first introduced the Austin 10 had 6-volt electrical equipment but was subsequently changed to 12v equipment in July 1933 from chassis number 21,000 onward.
