Useful tool No.1

I thought I would post some details of some useful tools that I have bought while doing jobs on our cars. The first is a little adjustable hand reamer that I just bought this week to assist with fitting a spring to the Colwyn Cabriolet this week.

I found that this tool is perfect for cleaning the holes where rust has made it difficult for a bolt to pass through. Because it is adjustable it was possible to carefully adjust the size so that only the rust was removed not cutting into the metal. Using a drill or fixed size reamer may actually enlarge the hole so that the bolt is not a snug fit anymore, so this tool is a much better option.

new guy with an old car

i just joined your site a few moments ago. your story and reason for the site is exactly what i am going through right now. i live in new orleans, louisiana, usa and just bought my first austin, a 1936 ten lichfield. you can imagine what i am going through right now trying to find parts, tech info, or even a forum that anyone monitors about these cars. by the way your car looks great. do you have any suggestions for a good online company i can order parts from? since i live in the US, calling england for parts is really feasible. i would rather email or shop online. thanks gor the site and good luck. look forward to more updates

Car Spares

I realise that almost eighteen months has passed since you contacted the site so the information I have put here may already be known to you.
I have found both suppliers to be very helpful in addition to the ATDC - www.aldertonaustinservices.co.uk and Available Austins (not yet online!) Tel. 01676 541276, Fax 01676 542066. I hope this might be of use to you if you are still requiring spares for your Lichfield and if I can be of any further help please contact me through the site.
Regards,
Ricky.

On-line

Thanks for joining the site, I hope it proves useful. I have tried to get people in the Austin clubs interested in participating on-line but haven't succeeded. It would be good if it was possible to order on-line but it seems that the suppliers of parts for this era of British car seem not to have caught up with current technology. I guess it is in some ways a good thing as they probably only still make these things because they still do things the way they did them 50 years ago. The Austin 10 Drivers Club are quite good for spares but sadly it is a case of phoning them with your order.
