The Austin Motor Company was founded in 1905, at Longbridge by Herbert Austin (1866–1941).
We bought our first Austin, a 1935 Austin 10 Litchfield in 2005, a century after the foundation of the Austin Motor Company in 1905. It was quite by accident that the dates worked out that way, however I have take a keen interest in the history and development of the Austin Motor Company. I first took to the internet to try and find out more but soon discovered that there seemed to be very little information about this company that had such an influence on the British motor industry.
There have been a number of books published about the Austin Motor Company but few are still in print and those that are tend to predominately deal with the popular Austin 7 and very little coverage has been given to other cars that were produced.
This on-line book is an attempt to share information that I have gleaned over the past couple of years. The main Focus of the history will be the Austin Motor Company before it became BMC (British Motor Corporation) in 1952, however some coverage of the later years will be included.
